The Most Planted of 2025
Your music. Your workouts. Your binges and deliveries. It’s that special, overmarketed time of the year when you hear from just about every subscription service under the sun, ready with a recap of your most-listened, most-watched and most-everything-else.
…it got us thinking. What’s in our pantheon of plants? Here’s what we found from the master list:
The Most Planted Fern
Autumn Brilliance Fern
Coming in at 60 total installations, the Autumn Brilliance Fern is one of our favorites for its lush, year-round coppery tint. Easy to grow, adaptable and most importantly, native, it’s a fern for all seasons, all settings and most habitats.
The Most Planted Grass
Blue-Eyed Grasses
While not *true* grass in the taxonomic sense, our 194 blue-eyed grass applications is still one to hang our hats on: Pollenator-friendly and native to the South, its low-grow nature makes for minimal lawn maintenance and maximum color. Delicate, star-shaped flourishes add just the right amount of pop.
The Most Planted Perennial
Spice Island Rosemary
Growing up to four feet tall and standing apart with its strong, sturdy profile, Spice Island Rosemary nabbed 49 total plantings throughout the year. Flowering in late winter with beautiful, deep blue speckles, the perennial itself is the taster’s choice. Warm, peppery and great on potatoes.
The Most Planted Shrub
Dwarf Yaupon Holly
Sun or shade, the Dwarf Yaupon Holly is about as versatile as it gets. Our 49 plantings throughout the year came in all forms: hedges, barriers, rock gardens and classic groundcover. It’s a great one for suppressing weeds and giving shape to a resilient native garden. Fun fact: It’s North America’s only caffeinated native plant, and roasted right, makes a mean tea.
The Most Planted Tree
Ruby Slippers Oakleaf Hydrangea
Again, not a tree in the traditional sense, but our 44 Ruby Slippers Oakleaf Hydrangeas are often pruned into tree form, taking the place of non-native species or shorter-lived perennials. Known to grow all the way up to 8-feet tall (hence “tree”), passersby can’t help but gawk at the white-and-pink blooms that change with age.
The Most Planted Vine
Hardy Kiwi & Native Clematis
Tied at one a piece, the Hardy Kiwi and Native Clematis share the title for our most planted vine of the year. Hardy Kiwi produces small, sweet fruits that rival the traditional kiwi while most clematis serve as a natural privacy screen and burst of color.
Maybe it’s the egg nog kicking in, but we’re feeling pretty good about these and the 300+ native species we put down over the course of 2025. See you on the other side!
